Benchmarking Dust Emission Models in M101

چکیده

We present a comparative study of four physical dust models and two single-temperature modified blackbody by fitting them to the resolved WISE, Spitzer, Herschel photometry M101 (NGC 5457). Using identical data grid-based technique, we compare resulting radiation field properties derived from models. find that mass yielded different can vary up factor 3 (factor 1.4 between only), although fits have similar quality. Despite differences in their definition carriers mid-IR aromatic features, all show same spatial variations for abundance grain population. well determined metallicity gradient gas maps, calculate an approximate upper limit on as function radius. All are found exceed this maximum estimate over some range galactocentric radii. renormalizing match Milky Way high latitude cirrus spectrum constraints reduce bring total below at

Dust and Nebular Emission . I . Models for Normal Galaxies

We present a model for nebular emission in star forming galaxies, which takes into account the effects of dust reprocessing. The nebular emissions (continuum emission, 54 H and He recombination lines and 60 nebular lines from UV to IR) have been computed with CLOUDY and then included into GRASIL, our spectrophotometric code specifically developed for dusty galaxies. The interface between nebula...

Interstellar Dust Models Consistent with Extinction, Emission, and Abundance Constraints

We present new interstellar dust models which have been derived by simultaneously fitting the far–ultraviolet to near–infrared extinction, the diffuse infrared (IR) emission and, unlike previous models, the elemental abundance constraints on the dust for different interstellar medium abundances, including solar, F and G star, and B star abundances. The fitting problem is a typical ill-posed inv...

Dust Emission Features in NGC

We present 0.35 to 2.5 μm spectra of the south and northwest filaments in the reflection nebula NGC 7023. These spectra were used to test the theory of Seahra & Duley that carbon nanoparticles are responsible for Extended Red Emission (ERE). Our spectra fail to show their predicted second emission band at 1.0 μm even though both filaments exhibit strong emission in the familiar 0.7 μm ERE band....

The Behavior of the Aromatic Features in M101 Hii Regions: Evidence for Dust Processing

The aromatic features in M101 were studied spectroscopically and photometrically using observations from all three instruments on the Spitzer Space Telescope. The global SED of M101 shows strong aromatic feature (commonly called PAH feature) emission. The spatially resolved spectral and photometric measurements of the aromatic feature emission show strong variations with significantly weaker em...
